Health Equity through
Cancer CENTER in rural bangladesh
Help us build the Cancer Center.
Rural Cancer Center in Bangladesh with Focus on Community Health Care Program
Amader Gram Cancer Care & Research Center, a non-government initiative under a support from the Government of Bangladesh (Planning Commission approval Reference Number- 20.02.0000.052.14.118.2018-50 dated December 23, 2019) is developing a Cancer Care Center and non-communicable disease (NCD) diagnosis/treatment planning facility on its 8.2-acre campus in Rampal sub-district of Khulna division. As of November, 2022 the construction work is in good progress, campus has a setup of a clinic to assist in diagnosis of Breast & Women health problems, a Wi-Fi tower and high-speed Internet access in the campus clinic & surrounding community, and several coconut and fruit-bearing trees have been planted.
Bangladesh Government extended financial support for Tk. 182.7 million ($2.5 million) to construct the NCD Outpatient and Diagnostic Buildings.
To add matching funds to the government’s major contribution (79.80% of total construction costs) we need 20.20% which is Tk. 46.2 million ($462,000) to further develop this campus and to expand clinical activities at our Digital Health Care Center which eventually will become part of the AGCRC campus, this project needs matching financial support for the building constructions. This building project is a key step in the creation of a grass-roots transparent and accountable community services network.
MISSION
The mission of the Amader Gram Cancer Care and Research Center is to develop visionary, innovative, transformative, and trusted model community-oriented health care services addressing primary care, cancer, and other non-communicable diseases (UN Sustainable Development Goal 3.4)
Three specific aims related to this building project are to-
- Address the neglected community health challenges, especially those affecting women and children, by creating an integrated and linked network of community health workers, virtual care services, and ambulatory care facilities and services with two information technology tools: an electronic medical record (EMR) and wireless broadband access. And,
- Open ambulatory and diagnostic facilities on its garden campus and begin operations there with:
- A staff with a paraprofessional:doctor ratio of 7:1.
- Intensively trained local paraprofessional staff who conduct the majority of record-keeping
- Diagnostic pathway and treatment guidelines
- Several regularly needed point-of-care diagnostic tools
- Specialty tele-consultation capacities
- Basic diagnostic radiology, cardiology, and pathology blood testing services
- Emergency care services, particularly for complicated obstetric deliveries and acutely ill children.
- A quality assurance program measuring intervention efficacies safety and efficiencies, patient-centeredness, timeliness, and equity of patient care.
- A goal of serving 150 patients/day
- Implement an innovative, sustainable, and trusted financial model to ensure access for everyone.
IMPACT – WHY THIS PROJECT IS IMPORTANT FOR ALL OF US
Every country is searching for better ways to provide health care to all its citizens. The innovative Amader Gram model can teach us all about how to achieve our health goals for all. So, it is a win-win initiative. Amader Gram and CALL FOR HUMANITY can show the best way, first, for us all. On top of this, this Amader Gram effort is important in bringing greater political stability, less incentive for migration, and economic development through better health to Bangladeshi citizens, all of which are in the best interests of all global and American citizens. Finally, it matters to all of us because the climate change impacts on Rampal residents are overwhelmingly of United States-making, and so for Americans to help these Bangladeshi residents directly to better manage their health challenges, is the right thing to do.
IMPACT MORE THAN JUST BUILDINGS
The Ambulatory Clinic and Diagnostic Center will be the anchor facilities for Amader Gram’s primary care program reaching out to the 160,000 Rampal sub-district residents. These facilities and program will create jobs for 200 locally trained health care workers, the majority of whom will be women.
